What to Expect at Your Cervical Screening
Key Information
- Who performs the test? The screening is always carried out by a trained clinician who is there to support you.
- The Process:
- Step 1: We start with a private chat to answer any questions.
- Step 2: You will be given privacy to undress from the waist down (a paper sheet is provided for cover).
- Step 3: We gently insert a speculum (using lubricant) and use a soft brush to take a sample of cells. This takes only a few seconds.
- You are in Control: You can ask us to stop or take a break at any moment. Your comfort is the priority.
- Helpful Tips: You can bring headphones to listen to music, wear a skirt or dress that you can leave on, or ask for a smaller speculum if that helps you relax.
What Happens Next?
If you are due for your screening, please do not put it off. Attending is one of the best ways to protect your health. If you have already had your test, your results will arrive by post in a few weeks.
